Our Forester at JL Gardner Hardwoods is Neil Brooks and here is a little bit about him. Neil grew up in Franklin County as the second oldest of 10 children. Early on in life he found a passion for the outdoors and that led him to Virginia Tech where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resource Management. After graduation he began working for the Peaks of Otter Soil and Water Conservation District in Bedford County before going to work for the Virginia Department of Forestry in Franklin, Henry, and Patrick Counties for nearly 8 years. With the Forestry Department Neil worked with landowners, loggers, fire fighters, public safety, and local educators including Ferrum College. He has extensive experience in forest management, pre-harvest planning, silvicultural water quality and best management practices. Neil resides in Franklin County with his wife and three children.
